The distances in this kind of landscape where often deceptive. What would sometimes look like just a few minutes ride would sometimes end up taking the next 45 minutes. Askin Chin, Xinjiang, China.

After a long day's ride, dinner was always a welcome treat. Each of us carried one of these small one person tents, that weigh about 2 pounds, and are just slightly larger than a sleeping bag. Askin Chin, Xinjiang, China.

We would take turns using the stove (center bottom of the photo, in the foil) to cook our meals. Most evenings we ate noodles with whatever else we could find to throw in. During these days the road side vegetables that we had found a couple days before were a welcome treat. Askin Chin, Xinjiang, China.

A little Tibetan dentistry. Liyang's crown had fallen out, so we decided to "super glue" it back in. Note, the crown is in John's right hand between his index finger and thumb. Liyang is trying to dry off the post for the crown with a mouthful of Kleenex. Domar, Tibet.

It should be noted: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME. Only after returning to the USA did Liyang find out that Super Glue will kill all the nerve endings in the tooth, fortunately she had already had a root canal on that tooth.

Sometimes it was easier to ride off the road rather than on it. North of Rutog, Tibet.
