Manjushree Center of Tibetan Culture
of Darjeeling, India was founded on 14th of August 1988 by a
small group of dedicated individuals. It is registered under
the Government of West Bengal Society Act XXVI of 1961. It is
also affiliated to the Department of Religion and Culture, Central
Tibetan Administration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dharamsala,
India, Tibetan Exile Government.
Aim:
Manjushree Center focus is the preservation
and promotion of Tibetan heritage, language, culture, tradition
habits. It is a purely non-political and non-profitable organization.
Objectives:
a) To conduct regular Tibetan classes for
those who want to learn or improve their Tibetan language.
b) To organize talks and seminars on Tibetan language, tradition,
religion, culture etc., by inviting leading Tibetan scholars.
c) To collect books on Tibet and have a library to benefit all
who are interested in researching Tibetan matters.
d) To bring out periodic bulletins.
Activities:
Regular Tibetan classes consist of
(a) Part time open Tibetan Language classes
are held from 4:00 p.m to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. These
are intended for members of the local community that want to
learn spoken Tibetan.
(b) Intensive Tibetan Language Course held for 9 months every
year.
(c) Organize the following activities involving institutions,
schools, monasteries, organizations and Centers: talks, seminars,
elocution contests, quiz contests, art competition, exhibitions,
video Shows, calligraphy, essay competitions, cultural programme
etc. in Tibetan.
Membership:
1. Any nationality who has an interest in
Tibet and Tibetan culture and can fulfill the membership conditions
can become a member. Anyone can become a life member by paying
US$50
2. Any person intending to enroll as a member of this Association
should fill in and sign the membership enrollment form. This
form must be endorsed by one of the working committee members
of MCTC.
3. The enrollment form can be obtained from the office for US$2
and every member will have to pay US$25 as a annual membership
fee.
4. Anyone interested in taking part time open Tibetan classes
must pay a nominal tuition fee of US$10 per month.
